In the Northern Saimaa municipalities of Heinävesi, Liperi, and Rääkkylä, you can explore some of North Karelia’s most beautiful lake and ridge landscapes. Liperi and Rääkkylä are archipelago municipalities, while Heinävesi is known for its waterways. There are routes to suit every level of fitness, with cafés, restaurants, and accommodation along the way.
The new gravel cycling routes have received excellent feedback for their stunning scenery, and the hiking trails offer varied terrain. New paddling routes start from the harbors of Heinävesi and Liperi, passing by the home waters of the Saimaa ringed seal. Northern Saimaa’s six guest harbors welcome boaters to moor their vessels – and land travelers to enjoy the harbor services.

Hiking Trails
Liperi’s hiking trails take you through beautiful ridge landscapes. On Rääkkylä’s nature trails, you can admire the beauty of the archipelago. In Heinävesi, you can hike from monastery to monastery.

Cycling Routes
The new gravel routes take you along Finland’s most beautiful small roads through idyllic countryside. Mountain biking is also possible on well-maintained forest trails.

Paddling Routes
The new paddling routes start from the harbors of Kirkkolahti, Tutjunniemi, and Heinävesi. Hop into a canoe and marvel at the lake landscape dotted with rocky islands.
